Crime Prevention Tips

Name and Shame Tips for Builders

  • Ensure Name & Shame signage is fully visible from roadway. If there are residents living in view of the site consider delivering Name and Shame pamphlets personally or to their letterbox. Community awareness and education will assist in preventing criminal behaviour especially when a reward of up to $3000 can be obtained.

  • Encourage the community you are in to report all suspicious activity.

  • Ensure your sites are secure, check all doors, window locks and site sheds. Don’t leave it up to the tradesmen.

  • If possible move unused building material to rear of site or out of view from roadway.

  • To avoid damage to windows ensure site is cleared of loose materials, bricks, tiles etc.

  • If possible delay delivery of expensive items, ovens, hotplates, etc, to as close to handover as possible, preferably after handover in burglary hot spot areas.

  • In order to help protect your construction sites Gainsborough are happy to discuss a number of options they offer to ensure your sites are secure. For more information please contact the Gainsborough Office on 9209 2511 or your local Gainsborough representative.

  • Report all instances of theft or damage, because if it is happening on your site it may be happening to other builders. Name and Shame can then establish hot spot areas and target them. The Name and Shame Security vehicles can be used covertly or overtly in these areas, as additional preventative measures.

  • Supervisors should make their tradesman aware of the campaign and that they could be eligible for a reward should they report any activity that leads to an arrest.

  • Building sites are randomly fitted with CCTV, with visible cameras or covertly placed throughout the site

  • In an event of a burglary on site contact WA Police and Name and Shame investigators, Meridian Security, immediately. Forensic evidence may be available from the site.
